Why Service Your Boiler?

Here at Pinnacle Plumbing and Heating, we understand that servicing your boiler is probably not top of your ‘to do’ list!
Most of us only get concerned about our boiler if something doesn’t sound right or if it stops working altogether. It is one of the ‘white goods’ that works tirelessly in the background, either keeping your home warm and snug, providing hot water or both. There’s nothing worse that turning on the shower and the water remains stubbornly cold. Let’s face it, we’ve probably all been there!

Servicing Your Boiler Is Important

Servicing your boiler is really like the MOT for your car. If you are a landlord then it is a legal requirement and it must be done once a year. If you are a domestic homeowner, then once is year is also strongly advised and in many cases required in order to keep your boiler in good working order. Many warranties and guarantees require you to service your boiler. You just need to know who can do this for you.

Why Do I Need To Have My Boiler Serviced?

Servicing a boiler is one of those jobs that’s a bit like going to the dentist. It’s not something we look forward to, but it means we’re better off afterwards! Boiler servicing means any problems with a gas boiler can be detected before they become major issues. A service would spot a part that was beginning to show signs of wear and tear, rather than it break completely and causing some serious damage and increasing the costs significantly. From experience, here at Pinnacle we know how a small problem can escalate. This is also an issue in the winter months when boilers tend to get more usage due to the colder weather. For this reason, getting a service in the summer means you care ready for the autumn and winter months, rather than doing without heating or hot water when you need it most.

It Can Save You Money

While there is a cost to having your boiler serviced, it really does mean it can save you time, money and hassle in the long run. A straight-forward service may not be as costly as you think. And in many cases, the boiler we service runs smoothly afterwards, making it more efficient and therefore saving you money and of course energy usage. Servicing your boiler will most likely extend the life span of it, making a replacement something that will only occurs a long way down the line.

It Can Keep You Safe

With all gas appliances (and electric ones) safety is the key. One of the key worries with gas appliances is carbon monoxide, which is an odourless poisonous gas that can cause fatalities in extreme circumstances. The safety of your family or tenants simply doesn’t have a price tag.  The cost of a service is very little to pay in order to have peace of mind.

Does A Service Take A Long Time?

While we will need access to the boiler for a period of time, here Pinnacle will always do our best to fit in with your schedule. We all have busy lives! A straight-forward service might only take an hour or so. Keeping on top of boiler servicing can reduce the time taken to keep it in good working order.

Pinnacle Will Do The Following (And More)

We are often asked, what happens during a boiler service? While we always appreciate a cup of tea or coffee (and maybe a biscuit or two) while we work, the Pinnacle team have a number of in-depth checks to do during the service procedure. These include:

Cleaning the appliance, thorough checking of the safety controls and elements, wear and tear checks which might lead to a new part being required, gas pipe checks, flue check, emissions check, a thorough check to ensure your boiler isn’t using too much gas, ventilation checks, cleaning of any filters and ensuring your boiler meeting healthy and safety regulations.

For landlords we also issued you a gas safety inspection certificate. We will also tell you when your boiler will next need a service.

What About Covid-19 Restrictions?

With the Pandemic still a potential threat, Pinnacle are proud of our Covid-19 safety measures. This includes social distancing, use of facemasks, gloves and thorough sanitising of our hands and equipment.

We Explain Everything

Our Pinnacle engineers will explain exactly what they discover during servicing your boiler. They will tell you if all is okay or if some parts are getting worn and need to be replaced. As we have a large stock of spare parts, we can often replace there and then. In some cases, if a boiler hasn’t been serviced in some time, if it is very old or unsafe, then there might be other outcomes. This can include the boiler being condemned. If this happens then this is for your own health and safety. And of course, it means you will need a new boiler. Pinnacle Plumbing and Heating can help with a new boiler installation if it needed.
